Now u can get ur iPhone unlocked on the o2 Ireland network. They have just released the news on the 11th march 2010. They are now accepting requsts to unlock iPhone’s purchased on o2 Ireland network but they won’t unlock it unless u bought from them(o2 Ireland). If u are a prepay customer on the o2 network and you eant ur iPhone unlocked you need to top up €150 in total(excluding Bonus credit). Then u need to be register with o2 Forums & o2.ie. Then when ur done with that u go into the iPhone unlock forum then you look for the private forum link. then u send them ur iPhone details. For full info vist:

I have a question regarding SIM free Iphones.
Once you buy one, and you sign up a plan with any operator, does your Iphone still SIM free ?
I’ve heard they have to configure your phone, is this process included to lock you phone ?

Although not officially launched yet some vodafone stores will order you one from a third party but on the voda network. Insurance cant be bought on iphone until official launch but all other settings are available. My iphone was free on the €65 monthly plan but due to go up to €129 for phone soon. I got in Blanchardstown if you cant wait to get it.

Hi Dave,

great blog. Apple stores in Australia sell SIM free and unlocked iPhones. I have one now and it works fine in Ireland on Vodafone.

I have only got one question, if you want to use the Apple iPhone mail client with a pop email address, what do you use for the outgoing mail server? All Vodafone’s email documentation I can find is all about their own email plus client which hides these settings – only asks for the “incoming mail server settings”.

Just ring Vodafone on 1907 and ask to order the iPhone or drop into a store. You can get it within 2-3 days. They just can’t advertise it yet.

Hi All,

great blog!! im heading over to italy in march. i am currently with vodafone business contract at work. wondering if it is worth my while getting the 32gb iphone in italy while i am there or should i just wait until it is launched in ireland and get it with vodafone ireland??? i registered my interest with vodafone in december and havnt heard anything from them yet.

Just log onto their website and register you interest.
They rang me and I had it two weeks later, 18month contract by cost of phone zero euro
