The arrival of SagePay in the Irish market has helped bring down the cost of online payment processing. Both SagePay and Realex have packages aimed at SMEs that are excellent value. Check out my blog post on this topic -

With these new pricing plans PayPal is no longer the only option – unless you can’t get or afford an Internet Merchant Account.

Ah, we really do live in the bannana republic, good old rip off Ireland. Just take a look at the gateway options available in the UK for accepting credit card payment, and look at thier costs – a fraction of what we have to pay! As a small business, the only option for me is Paypal which really is nonsense when all I want is a simple interface to allow my customers to enter credit card details.

Nice article, in particular I like your info on merchant accounts and payment service providers. Our website has an updated list of providers that operate in the Irish market at present both payment service providers which require internet merchant accounts and payment bureaus which do not.
